Atlanta

Atlanta, Georgia, is exploding with offices, business headquarters, travelers, and commuters and is home to many Fortune 1000 and Fortune 500 companies, including The Coca-Cola Company, Delta Airlines, UPS, and Home Depot.

Salas O’Brien has helped design and engineer many facilities in Atlanta for clients in the transportation and hospitality industries. Here are three examples.

Marriott Gateway Hotel and Conference Center

When Marriott built its seven-story, 300,000-square-foot Gateway Hotel and Conference Center in Atlanta, Salas O’Brien provided LEED commissioning and energy modeling services. Since this hotel was being built near both the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, the busiest airport hub in the U.S., and the Georgia International Convention Center, it needed over 22,000 square feet of meeting space, dining space, and event venues.

Our designs helped Marriott achieve its goals for the space and earn LEED Silver status.

MARTA Brady Mobility Facility

As a major transportation hub for the Southeastern U.S., the city of Atlanta depends on the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) to help its millions of residents and visitors get where they need to go. This public transportation system includes a bus and rail network and is the ninth largest transit agency in the country.

Salas O’Brien performed the engineering design and LEED fundamental commissioning for MARTA’s new Brady Mobility Facility. This 78,200-square-foot facility is responsible for the administrative and maintenance needs for all of MARTA’s mobility vehicles, including a fleet of 200 buses.

We performed engineering design for the bus maintenance facility, operations offices, administration offices, and fueling/cleaning/washing building. Our LEED fundamental commissioning services included HVAC systems and electrical systems (lighting controls and emergency power generator). The building uses solely LED fixtures for its exterior and interior lighting and makes ample use of natural lighting indoors.

As a result of these services, the facility now has twice as much space as before to meet Atlanta’s growing transportation needs. The new facility was also awarded LEED Silver Certification for its excellent energy efficiency.

Proof of the Pudding

You might say that Proof of the Pudding is a popular catering company with five locations in Atlanta. But really, “catering company” doesn’t tell half the story: the company is an Atlanta legend that frequently caters venues such as World of Coca-Cola, the Carter Presidential Center, and the Georgia International Convention Center. Their facilities include warehouses, offices and meeting rooms, and, of course, lots of commercial kitchen space.

With its prestige and growing client base, Proof of the Pudding needed to update its commercial kitchens and office spaces. Salas O’Brien accommodated the company’s mechanical, electrical, and plumbing needs across 12,000 square feet of warehouse space, 11,000 square feet of office and meeting room space, and 5,000 square feet of catering kitchen space.

Our team designed new plumbing for the restrooms and break rooms, new HVAC systems, safety plans for kitchen hood exhaust, plans for power lighting distribution, and a sprinkler system for food storage spaces, empowering the company to continue its outstanding catering services to some of Atlanta's finest.
