Salas O'Brien Completes Massive Technology Upgrades at Aldine ISD

MARTAIn November 2015, Aldine Independent School District voters approved a $798 million bond proposal for renovation and new construction projects. Nearly $99 million of that was for upgrading technology in existing schools with the goal of fostering better education and safety.

School administrators knew that only one firm could handle that much work while maintaining personal and responsive service and an extremely tight deadline. That firm, of course, was Salas O'Brien.

One of the primary focuses of the project was supporting the installation of 3,500 interactive monitors that are designed to allow students to interact with the teacher from their own devices through the district's Bring Your Own Technology (BYOT) program. To support that effort, our team designed 12 million feet of cabling and 3,000 wireless access points. We also designed 5,000 PA speakers, and 125 retrofitted doors for card access. This was spread across nearly 60 Aldine ISD schools and seven district facilities.

In a separate project for the district, our team upgraded the district's GPS tracking system for its buses, enabling a "here comes the bus" feature that allows parents to use an app to see scheduled and actual arrival of their child's bus at the stop.
