You’ll find welcoming streetscapes and walkways, public green space, and outdoor courtyards in Baton Rouge’s grandest mixed-use urban village: Perkins Rowe. This pedestrian-friendly environment blends shopping, dining, entertainment, office, residential, and grocery in a way that serves both local residents and visiting tourists. Salas O’Brien was the perfect choice for this large, complex project—one that faced tight budgets and timelines, requiring attentive management and proactive communication.
As a capital city that’s home to robust economic drivers, the ninth largest port in the U.S., and powerhouse Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge experienced a building boom in the 1990s and 2000s, becoming one of the fastest-growing cities in the South. Developers recognized the opportunity to provide this flourishing community with a sophisticated new town center. They found a large plot of land with unique zoning which allowed for very dense residential development as well as retail and office: the ideal spot for a mixed-use destination.
The developers turned to Salas O’Brien to provide mechanical, electrical, and plumbing consulting design services. The final project clocks in at 745,000 square feet. That’s 375,000 square feet of upscale shopping space, over 225 residential units, and 135,000 square feet of Class A office space: quite an expansive project!
Shoppers, workers, and residents of Perkins Rowe enjoy premier retailers, popular dining options, and a diverse entertainment line-up, all among beautiful courtyards and historic Louisiana oaks which line the streets of this charming, walkable neighborhood.
